In 2014, the Archivio Generale Arcivescovile of Bologna started the online guide of its own archives, including both the catalogued items that can be consulted, and those that have not yet been inventoried or that are not available for consultation. This online guide is funded by the CEI (Italian Episcopal Conference) for the development of the diocesan Archives.
The guide will be created using the CEIAr software and the descriptive cards of each archive will be included in the Anagrafe degli Istituti Culturali Ecclesiastici. The description of the archive will follow the international archival description standards ISAD (G), ISAAR (CPF) and ISDIAH. These standards allow separated descriptions of archives, their producers and preservers, and at the same time they allow for interconnections between the levels of description.
The project will be divided into several cataloguing steps. It aspires to describe the archival complexes and their different sections and series. It also aims to provide a brief historical context of their producers and to investigate the main characteristics of constitution, development and ownership. Each archive’s description will include the denomination, consistency, dating, content, sorting criteria, research tools available and bibliography. The project also expects the analysis of the research tools and the verification of their information, as well as the reconstruction of the several stages of organization and cataloguing of the documentary material.
