Internships

Since 2015 the Archiepiscopal Archive organized various curricular internships together with the University of Bologna. The vast array of the documents makes it possible to follow different research. Many students attended their internship working with recycled parchments, Middle Ages papers, bibliographic works and preparation of inventories and supporting materials. The internship paths possible are two.

The first path, together with the RAM centre (Research and Manuscripts Analysis) provides the census and catalogue of recycling fragments that are widely preserved in the archives. Basic skills are needed in Palaeography and Diplomatics for working on the fragments. The path of the internship must be agreed by the student with professor Maddalena Modesti, University of Bologna and tutor of the internship and with the archives staff.

The second path enables the experienced student to work with the archivists on the collection and inventories of the massive documentary heritage of the archive. In this case, at least the attendance of one of the APD schools in the State Archives is required.
The archive is open to new interns, with whom personalized courses can be agreed upon. For further information please contact the archive. The archive is not an independent body; therefore, all its projects can be found in the Unibo software application, free for students by using their own credentials under the Archepiscopal Archive proposals. It is possible to send a self-application to the archive through the software application.

In-person classes

Classes taken in the archive are valuable opportunities as they allow students of every level to handle original papers, becoming active participants writing history for one day. Interested teachers can contact the archive’s staff to decide together topics and modalities of one or more lessons, based on the needs, skills and study paths (from elementary school to high school).

In-archive classes are particularly suited for university tracks and most of these have been aimed at students from the humanistic field. The lessons are taught both by the archive’s staff and tenured professors with whom previous tracks have already been agreed. Lessons have been taken on palaeography and diplomatic, archivistic, history of the Church, medieval history, modern history, family history and society, history of justice and history of physics, but it is possible to agree on different fields of study.

Guided tours

Guided tours (only for groups) are available upon request. The tours will be scheduled out of the opening hours of the study room and are limited to the availability of the staff. Times and modalities can be decided on particular requests and personal interests.
